Heroes

A hero. When you first hear this word, what pops into your mind? Do people dressed in tights and capes jump into your head? Or do you imagine people with superpowers - like x-ray vision, the ability to fly, or super human strength. A hero has 2 separate definitions, in my opinion. The first definition represents someone who has saved you from a situation, person, place, or thing. The second definition refers to someone that you admire or look up to. Today I would like to talk about one of my real life heroes. Her name is Glenda Iona Bland, she was my grandmother. She was my hero because she taught me many valuable lessons that will stick with me for the rest of my life. The first lesson she taught me was how to love somebody else, even if they don't deserve it. How she taught me that lesson was by example. Whenever I was with her she would always have a smile for a stranger, and it didn't even matter to her if they weren't smiling. She always told me that a smile could light up somebody's day and make a difference in their life. Secondly, she taught me about the love of Jesus. I will always be grateful to her for teaching her daughter, my mother, about Christ - so that my mother and grandmother could educate me and encourage me in my faith. I am very thankful for that because I would not be the same person without Christ as my Lord and Savior. Even though my grandmother could not fly or lift hundred pound boulders, she was a true hero to me because of her continuous love and kindness. She was a real hero in my book!

  1. Selah -
Very sweet and well-written introduction. I like how you define hero and then go on to remember your grandmother. And you draw in your blog theme by the things that your grandmother taught you.
